Day 01: Fly to Axum
Axum is renowned for its cathedral of St. Mary Zion and the monolithic stelae which are made of single pieces of granite.
Day 02: Drive to Hawzain, via Adwa and Adigrat about 205kms
Visit the monastery of Abba Garima, the primitive temple of Yeha, the church of Abba Aftse and the most distinguished marvel monastery of Debre Damo- accessible only by rope and not allowed for women.
Day 03: Drive to Inde Mariam Wukro, a very complex and magnificent church- not separated from the native rock, the church of Teklehaymanot and Gorgis ma-kado.
Day 04: Visit the monastic church of Debre Mariam Korkor, very interesting church with great wealth of material and the small rock church known as Abba Daniel’s Prayer room.
Day 05: Drive to Abune Yemata, a rock-hewn church, carved on the cliff face of one of the mountains of Guh.
Day 06: Drive to Debretsion (Abune Abraham), entirely hewn from a living rock. Continue to Yohannes Makudi, accessed via a narrow cleft between towering sandstone walls. It is typical of early Ethiopian Coptic Christian churches.
Day 07: Drive to Tsaeda Imba village
Visit the three ancient rock churches: Medhane Alem Adi Kesho considered by many to be Ethiopia’s oldest rock church; Petros wa Paulos and a carved rock dome church Mikael- Melehayzenghi dating to the 8th century.
Day 08: Drive to Mekelle via Wukro
En route visit Dugum Selassie, Abraha Atsbeha church and the rock church of Wukro Cherkos.
Day09: Excursion to Tembien village
Visit the two churches of Abba Yohanni and Gebriel Wukien.
Day 10: Fly back to Addis Ababa
